Denver Awaits the History Colorado Center

The Colorado History Museum closed its doors at the end of March, but construction on the new History Colorado Center has been underway since August of last year.  The new 200,000 sf building in the Civic Center / Golden Triangle District of downtown Denver is scheduled to open in late 2011.

According to this August, 2009 press release, "Its architecture will evoke Colorado’s spirit: beautiful surroundings, diverse peoples and unique places. Its natural, native colors will reflect the vibrancy of the western landscape and its interior elements will include many open spaces using Colorado materials.

The History Colorado Center, along with the new Ralph L. Carr Justice Complex, will be financed with the help of $338 million in Certificates of Participation, making it one of the nations largest Build America Bond projects.  Financing the two projects together will save over $200 million.
